Ganesh Visarjan (Anant Chaturdashi)

He has packed His bags and is ready to leave.

The streets are filled with devotees gyrating to songs of celebration and music. The air is suffused in vivacious chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya! …Bappa Bappa Morya… Mangal Murti Morya!

11 days of festivity has today reached its pinnacle and it’s a big farewell party out there.

Today is Anant chaturdashi or Ganpati Visarjan, the final day of Lord Ganesha’s journey on earth. Today, lacs of Ganesha idols will be immersed in lakes, ponds and rivers all over the city.

Making His way along with me is Ganesha, The Divine traveler, our friend who has today reached the final leg of His journey, better known as the Ganesh Visarjan.

Lord Ganesha being taken for Immersion

He assembles in the arena and waits for the final proceedings before the visarjan

The diya (lamp) is lit and Ganesh Stuti or Arti (prayer) is performed with a lot of gusto and enthusiasm for one last time.

His face gets a divine radiance with the flame of the diya glowing clear and bright.

Coconuts are broken and He is played Holi with!

His smile, His beauty, His cuteness… His memories are captured

The atmosphere is charged with devotion.

Wishes are whispered and His blessings are asked for.

All religious paraphernalia are removed, one by one.

The final boarding call – A loud chant of Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya…

… And He is lifted high

Some lower their heads while He gleefully passes over them

At the Immersion site

Devotees look on with eager eyes,

All hearts crying out to their dear friend — Good Bye… Ganesha

Amid chants of Bappa Bappa Morya, Pudchya Varshi Lavkar Ya,

Ganesha takes His flight back home…

These final moments of visarjan are quite heart warming not only for those who have hosted Him in their house for the past few days but also for people like me who have just been a part of the festival from the sidelines.
A little girl in a pensive mood looks on…

But these are also the moments that, I feel, highlight the real essence of the festival. Its in these final few moments that one can see the message He has wished to convey – The Message of love and detachment, of dissolution and creation, of bonding and separation, of patience and of moving on…

As the day gets darker and night falls over, I see the the streets are filled with the same enthusiasm and are still very much alive with all the party and celebrations,

As I make my way back home amid all these celebrations, A speck of gulaal kisses my cheek…

And I’m suddenly reminded me of a quote by Melina Campos,

Memories last forever, never do they die.

Friends stay together, never say goodbye.

See you soon, Ganesha!

The song of gratitude

THE SONG OF GRATITUDE

“Love so much that the song arises in your being — the song of gratitude.

Be grateful and sing the song of gratitude so that you can become more and more capable of love.

This is how one reaches higher and higher peaks, and one day, your love and your song have become one.

That day is the day where one disappears as a wave and becomes the ocean.

 That is called enlightenment

All those who have reached to god have reached through love.”

Nothingness

“Everything comes out of nothingness and goes back into nothingness.”

Hence there is no need for attachment, because attachment will bring misery.

Soon it will be gone.

The flower that has blossomed in the morning, by the evening will be gone.

Don’t get attached; otherwise in the evening there will be misery.

Then there will be tears, then you will miss the flower. Enjoy while it is.

But remember, it has come out of nothing, and it will go back to nothing.

And the same is true about everything, even about PEOPLE

Pack me a gift

In the empty streets of city

My dreams search the eyes..

Desperate to enter into their world hollow,

Of misery, lies, and sorrow

Left them blinded not asleep

With colors of some fading evening beneath diamond lit sky

Birds of unbroken empire of dusk, shrugging thier wings to fly

Hey you angels of far off land..take me down to those ruins of time..

Pack me a gift from days young..

Where lips had smile, and hands were full

With sand of time.. hey you angels of forgotten times,

I do not want wake up anymore,

Day streets are empty

No one is mine.

Being with you always

You enter my lungs

When ever I breathe

But for me to live

I need to exhale you

Inhaling and exhaling you

Has become  my life

That will continue

As long as I am alive
My heart beats because of you

My heart circulates you

Everywhere in my body

You are an inseparable part of me

Inspiring words

Live each present moment completely and the future will take care of itself.

Fully enjoy the wonder and beauty of each instant.

Practice the presence of peace.

The more you do that, the more you will feel the presence of that power in your life.

My birthday

So, today it’s my birthday,

So what can I do?

I’m now one year older…and I want to boohoo,

But it’s time to be happy,

A time to rejoice,

A day to remember…that I have a voice,

To express my opinions,

To say what I feel,

To love and to cherish…all things that appeal,

So, my heart feels gladdened,

I want to cry aloud,

“I’ve made it one more year”…and for that I’m so proud,

But what is life’s purpose?

Do we to just live and die?

Or should we investigate…the what and the why?

I believe in evolution,

of consciousness — not form,

Yes, my soul is eternal…and I was not born,

For this, I am thankful,

To my teacher and parents

Who taught me the Satya…that I’m like no others,

We’re all sole expressions,

of a Superior Godhead,

While remaining still persons…we’re also united,

Simultaneous and different,

And yet united as one,

The doctrine of Chaitanya…shines like the sun,

Illuminating our consciousness,

With the sound of Harinam,

My heart soars so high now…on the wings of Sri Ram,

I’m no longer fearful,

Of a thing called, “being dead,”

That ugly grey monster…that hides under my bed.

I now know it’s fiction,

to keep us oppressed,

in a world of illusion…and sensually obsessed,

The “keys” are now with me,

I’ve got the way out,

“Just master the tongue”… I emphatically shout!

And so, that’s my mission,

To share this simple fact,

Through practice and precept…my final soul act.

Please share your birthdate so that I can add it to my wish list

Feeding my mother

I always thought

Mother had a small stomach

Now I realise

She has a big heart too

Feeding me till I get satisfied

Then she eats  all the leftovers

So today I made her eat first before me

She was reluctant

But today I made her plate

Full of food

It gave an immense feeling of happiness and joy to see her eat free from all worries

An unfulfilled appointment

Our dreams lasted too long
But all the reality
Nothing but an unfulfilled appointment!

For once I was unable to decide
What pains me more
This poignant or the life without it!

The feeling of this aloneness
Amongst everyone around
The torment of this love unsatisfied!

It was so easy to love you
Never realised
Would be so hard to forget you!

I hear your voice — in silence
That you speak to me
In unspoken words!

You detach me from God
And replace Him by yourself
And I wonder whom to worship!

Now I am waiting
Till your memory leaves
The chambers of my heart!

Rain and Me

Semester exams are over…but holidays started with fever and weakness for me..it’s over now.

Enjoyed welcoming  getting wet in the first rain of this year…I love the first rain especially the petrichor…inhaling it gives me an immense pleasure with a cup of steaming coffee it’s like heaven.

I love the first rain, and rain loves me too
Rain drops dance when I come to sit by the window to watch the rains.

Some drops start beating on the sill of the window in excitement and hope to bounce back high enough to reach my face.
I stretch hand out of the window and let the drops rest on the softness of my palm.

And sometimes, I bless the rain by coming out myself and letting the rain touch me; my face, my body and my soul.
I stand out there, completely still, with my face tilted up towards the clouds, and my eyes closed as if I going to embrace it all.

In that moment, nothing crosses my mind. It’s just the rain and me. I live the rain while the rain feels me

Drops sit on the hammock of my eyelashes and fall one by one to kiss my lips. The ones i kiss back, find salvation and lose their being to become one with me

Those are the days when the rain is quenched of its thirst and there is a celebration in the skies. Clouds are elated, winds go euphoric, birds sing and rainbows appear.
Those are the days when I yearn for my salvation. Those are the days when I live and die; both at the same time, both because of the same person.
